Cristiano Ronaldo, the footballer who causes intense emotions,
whether love or hate, in the hearts of almost all football aficionados on the
planet. Though his legacy is undeniable at the club and personal level, an
international trophy has always eluded him. Perhaps, Euro 2016 is his last
realistic chance for international glory.
Portugal and Ronaldo came closest to winning the European championship
back in 2004, where they lost out to shock victors Greece. Ronaldo insisted
then that he would get many more chances for international glory. But unfortunately,
that hasn’t been the case.
So, after capping off another good season for Spanish giants
Real Madrid with 51 goals and 11 assists and a Champions league trophy, Ronaldo
will be looking forward to the Euro 2016. Portugal have much kinder fixtures
when compared to the likes of Italy and Belgium.
It would be the perfect opportunity for Ronaldo to inspire
his team to glory and make another Ballon d’Or his own against his rival,
Lionel Messi and etch his name into the record books forever.
